Local field studies have been conducted:

At the completion of his 10 day seminar on sustainable agriculture, Professor Lewis Wallis, of Sussex England, led a dozen students on a field study trip to the Macaya Reserve Buffer Zone. The park, which includes the second highest peak in Haiti, is home to a variety of plant species not found anywhere else on earth. It was an opportunity to learn first hand about the diversity of the park, and how easily this diversity is threatened by encroachment of agricultural activities. Anderson Jean, a second year agroforestry student said that “it was exciting to see trees that are totally unique, even though the overnight mountain stay was quite cold.” This was Professor Wallace’s second trip to AUC. He has also donated his personal agricultural library to the University.
