Champions for local change:

Universities are more than centers of learning. They should help build community and advocate for positive change. AUC is active in promoting alternative ways of thinking about agriculture and the environment

January will bring a visit by a major American foundation to evaluate an agricultural transformation grant proposal by AUC. Our proposed project will target specific community groups, working with them to take their agricultural products and add value to them through refining, commercialization, or manufacturing processes. In a second initiative, AUC is applying for consideration of an educational and conservation grant proposal in the Macaya Park and Buffer Zone. Macaya Park is a completely unique mountain ecosystem, located 30 miles from the university. It also represents one of the last untouched forests in Haiti, though its future is in jeopardy if current agricultural encroachment and logging activities continue unabated.
